Day 8, August 24, Port Hardy to Qualicum Beach (by car): With the bikes in the back of the HHR we were off for a drive back down Highway 19 to return the car in Parksville and spend the night just north of there in Qualicum Beach where my friend Lauren's parents had offered us accommodations at their beachfront home.

Quite a difference driving this road rather than biking it. And although the one-way car rental was rather expensive it was definitely worth it to be able to bike all the way to Port Hardy rather than doubling back half way and enduring that long gravel road. We arrived in Parksville in the afternoon, dropped off the car and started riding back north about 5 miles to Qualicum Beach.

We can't possibly thank Don and Edie enough for their hospitality. Edie just instinctively knows what a guest might need and both of them made us feel as welcome as if we were staying with our own family. This was definitely the nicest place we've ever stayed on any of our cycling trips. Next
