Day 8: Prineville to Sisters
In Prineville we were definitely back to reality. After breakfast we got on our bikes and headed west on Highway 26 through the commuter traffic toward Redmond, |
| Bend, and Sisters. Traffic was heavy by central Oregon standards, and VERY heavy compared to what we'd encountered on the previous 300+ miles. But it was an easy, flat ride with a bit of a tailwind most of the way to our destination - the Long Hollow Ranch - just east of Sisters. Dei had been staying at the Long Hollow Ranch for the whole week we were out on our ride. |
| We arrived at the ranch around noon. Just in time for lunch in the 100 year old restored farm house that served as guest quarters. We'd also have a nice home-cooked dinner there and enjoy a conversation with several of the proprietors, part of a cooperative ownership of this combination working ranch, hay farm, dude ranch, and B&B. |

We all spent the night at the ranch and the next day it was time to drop John off at the Redmond Airport and time for Dei and I to start driving back toward California.
The Cycling Statistics: 8 days of riding, approximately 400 miles. About 10 hills to climb, but only ranging from 1000 to 3000 feet of elevation gain and mostly reasonable grades. Fantasticly light traffic and great scenery. Really, a very easy tour logistically - just need to make some of those hotel reservations in advance because accommodations can be scarce in these little towns. Time to start planning 2005... |
