DAY 3, CIRCLEVILLE TO KOOSHAREM - 43 MILES
This was the day when conditions really started to improve. The weather forecast was for a warming trend that would last us the rest of the trip, and the winds had died down considerably. It was also the only other day of the ride without a significant climb. About 5 miles north of Circleville we turned right on to the very small Highway 62 to Koosharem. First heading east to the Otter Creek Reservoir, Highway 62 then jogs north through a beautiful, peaceful valley of yet more ranch land. Through the tiny towns of Kingston, Antimony, and Greenwich we had a very nice and easy ride of 43 miles to Koosharem.

Koosharem's Unofficial Greeter |
|
In Greenwich we'd been chased by a border collie but had managed to out run him. And as we pulled into Koosharem we saw another border collie crouched across the road staring our way. He was laying in wait for us and we didn't think we'd be able to shoot by him so we decided to stop and invite him to meet us. It worked like a charm. In a few minutes we were the best of friends and had an escort into town.

The LDS Church, Koosharem |
| Like Circleville, Koosharem is a very small and peaceful town. One motel (The Grass Valley Inn) with maybe 6 rooms, a cafe across the street, and the Grass Valley Mercantile that has been in business since the late 1800's and is now owned by the 4th generation of the original family, a very nice fellow in his mid-60s named Charlie. The owner of our hotel had her own house nextdoor, complete with a horse corral, a sow and a dozen piglets that appeared to be free to roam wherever they pleased. Next |
