DAY 6, ESCALANTE TO TROPIC - 40 MILES
After a warm and pleasant evening in Escalante we headed out for a very short and easy ride into Tropic. There's one climb that's quite gentle when heading west along Highway 12. At the summit (7400 ft) is a scenic overlook with a view of Powell's Point, which can be seen from all over the area and served as a point of reference for John Wesley Powell's survey of the American southwest in the 1800s. |

The gentle climb in our westerly direction became a much steeper downhill as we descended through Henrieville and Canyonville into Tropic. A very pleasant ride through red rock landscape that was beginning to look a bit like Bryce - which was only 10 miles further west of Tropic.

| Temperatures were now in the 80s. We had a nice "log cabin" motel room in Tropic and pizza and rootbeer floats for dinner. A relaxing time after a relatively easy day of cycling. Next |
