Chancy was practically an only-child since his three siblings were all 14 to 21 years older than him. He was baptized and joined the First Methodist Church of Victor (Iowa) on 15 July 1883 and graduated from Victor High School in 1889. He reportedly married Jennie Rose Compton on 30-Oct-1895 location unknown but probably in Iowa. Since their firstborn son died as an infant, their oldest child was Rowena, born in Bridgewater, South Dakota in 1898. It is believed that the baby picture to the right is of her.

William Champlin ROSECRANS married Sarah Elizabeth REED in Ogle Co, IL on 1-May-1850 (refer to the top of this page for info on the family history of Sarah E REED). William C and Sarah moved to the Victor, IA area (Iowa Co) in 1853 where the county history book states that they were among the earliest settlers in Hartford Twp. The history of the Victor Methodist Church also lists them among the earliest members and contributors along with brother-in-law Samuel DRUMMOND and sister Lucy Ann. Eventually Wm C and Sarah sold the farm and moved into Victor, apparently on the Poweshiek Co side of the town. They then moved to the Winfield, KS in April 1892 along with daughter Lucinda and her husband Gardner W WHITE (see their entry below). According to the Rosenkrans book mentioned above, William C Rosecrans looked the most like his father Isaac.

Lucinda married 22-Aug-1868 to Gardner W White who is sort of a "half" first cousin being the son of Lucinda's Aunt Diana ROSECRANS WHITE (daughter of Isaac ROSECRANS and Mary Taylor). For further info on this family see the listing below for Gardner WHITE, 7th child of Diana ROSECRANS. At the writing of the ROSENKRANS book, Lucinda's parents Wm C and Sarah lived with them and had passed on the family Bible to them (I'd love to see it).
