William TUTTLE came to New England on the ship Planter in 1635. He was one of the founders of the New Haven colony in 1639. His descendants include great-grandson Jonathan EDWARDS (the great Puritan preacher) who is in turn the grandfather of both Aaron BURR (of the famous duel with Alexander HAMILTON) and Henrietta Frances EDWARDS (who married Eli WHITNEY, inventor of the cotton gin).
Hannah SANFORD was the only daughter of Colonel Elihu SANFORD, a soldier in the American Revolution. Hannah SANFORD and Eliada TUTTLE were married in 1812.
Wellington TUTTLE is reported to have drowned in the San Francisco Bay in 1850.
Elihu TUTTLE married Caroline JOHNSON. He died in 1847 and she later remarried to Alphonso BARNES, brother of Wallace BARNES.
