Don's Page

As you can see at the top of the page, my name is Don Hopkins. I am 34 years old and live in Davie, Fl a suburb of Ft. Lauderdale. I am a native South Floridian, a relatively rare thing these days in transient South Florida. Besides that I'm also not hispanic which seems doubly rare. I have a wonderful family. My wife Donna and I have been married 11 years this year and our children Jared & Shelby are Florida natives like me. Donna was born in Wilmington, NC. My parents live a few blocks away from us and my younger sister also lives here in Broward County. I really enjoy the area here but often find myself wondering how much longer I can continue to live here.

I graduated from Miramar High School in 1984 and went to DeVry Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Ga for 2 years graduating with an Electronics Technician Diploma in June 1986. While still in school in Atlanta, I began working for a company called S&H Medical Systems installing and calibrating x-ray machines for hospitals. The company hired me full time after graduation and moved me back home to Ft. Lauderdale in 1986. I've been here ever since. S&H was bought out by Philips Medical Systems in 1987. I've been working for Philips now for 15 years and currently I am a Senior Systems Specialist working on everything from a simple chest x-ray machine & fluoroscopic c-arms used in operating rooms to cardiac cath labs. I still enjoy the technical side of the work but with all of the cutbacks in personnel over the years it seems that I am always working late now. I am also the Team Leader (supervisor) for the other 8 service engineers working here in South Florida. I really like everyone I work with & wouldn't trade a single one. They are a great group of guys.

Music sure has changed a lot over the years but, my taste in it has not. Although I listen to a wide range (Hard Rock, Classical, Oldies, Alternative, Blues, Metal, etc.) of music, I find that I keep going back to the music I listened to during & shortly after my high school years. Yes, that 80’s crap still holds a place in my heart. My favorite genre has to be hard rock from the 70’s and 80’s and the greatest rock band in the world is still Cheap Trick.
