William Harbert at the time of the Indian attack on his family was in the garden gathering turnips, he ran towards the house, in his flight he dodged between the legs of an Indian who struck at him with a tomahawk but missed. After he gained entrance to the house he crawled under the bed and ate turnips during the fight. He was six years old. Little is known of William as a man.
