Alabama Citizens for Life of Mobile, Inc., is the local chapter of Alabama Citizens for Life, the state affiliate of the well known and highly respected National Right to Life Committee, Inc. Alabama Citizens for Life is a statewide, nonsectarian, non-profit organization established to serve groups and individuals in Alabama who wish to effectively defend the most basic of all human rights -- the right to life. It is our belief that the protection of human life can be achieved only through a unified, statewide educational and legislative effort that is coordinated with an effective national program.
ACL OF MOBILE'S ROE V. WADE ANNIVERSARY OBSERVANCES included two events. On Sunday, January 13, 2007, between 7:00 and 8:00 P.M., we held our annual march, with a couple of very important differences. Since, blessedly, the abortion clinic on Sage Avenue closed during 2007, this year's march was held near Mobile's other major abortion provider, the Planned Parenthood clinic at the corner of Downtowner Loop West and Downtowner Loop North. The march proceeded from that corner down Downtowner Loop North to Downtowner Blvd. There being no church in that area to host our prayer service, we combined the prayers with the march and chose an evening hour, so that the marchers could carry candles. Clergymen leading the prayers included Monsignor Farmer, of the Archdiocese of Mobile, and Dr. Charles Brown, pastor of Government Street Baptist Church. The marchers sang hymns, led by Mrs. Vicki Klein on the autoharp. This "Candlelight Vigil/March" was quite well attended, drawing quite a few pro-lifers from neighboring areas including the Eastern Shore.
Photos of our Roe v. Wade marches from various years, are posted on our album page.
For the following Sunday, the Sunday closest to January 22, although we do not always arrange a formal prayer vigil, we do always invite the public to make use of our Memorial to the Victims of Abortion, Pine Crest Cemetery, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, for special prayers in remembrance of those injured by the Roe v. Wade decision. Directions to the monument are available in our web album (see next heading for link and further info). It is our hope that prayers will be offered for our nation, for the children lost, for the children who may yet be saved, for the young parents and other family members injured by this brutal act so often now represented as a kindness, for pro-life medical professionals who are risking their careers to oppose abortion, for pro-abortion medical professionals who may come to see the truth and change their practices -- in short, for all of the long list of desperate needs the abortion holocaust has imposed on us.
Please note that this memorial is always available to the public for purposes of prayer, meditation, remembrance, grieving, and so forth, whether or not a formal vigil is scheduled. Photographs of it, along with detailed directions to it, are posted on our album page. We again express our gratitude to Pine Crest for their donation of the plot, as well as to Mr. and Mrs. Jesse W. Phillips, of Mississippi-Alabama Marble & Granite, for their donation of the beautiful marble monument, engraved and placed at their own expense. Alabama Citizens for Life of Mobile hopes that this special place for mourning and memory will give comfort to all of those bereaved by abortion, especially mothers suffering from Post Abortion Syndrome, while serving as a constant reminder to our community of the personhood of the preborn child. Many other cities have erected such monuments and have found them very effective. The memorial is located in Section 29 and is open for visits any time during Pine Crest's usual hours. We cordially invite all those mourning victims of abortion, both those personally involved and the pro-life public in general, to make free use of this beautiful site. The location is quiet and rather secluded, offering a large measure of privacy for reflection and prayer.
ACL-Mobile made various efforts on behalf of pro-life candidates during the November 2006 elections. Most notably, we designed and displayed in two locations a full-sized billboard urging voters to choose pro-life candidates. This special effort was made in support of local pro-life candidates challenging entrenched pro-choice incumbents. We hope such candidates will again enter the lists in the future, and we will again support their pro-life stands.
ACL-M's annual pro-life booth at 2007's Greater Gulf State Fair was very popular. A great deal of literature was distributed, and many people stopped to express their support, to discuss the issues, or to learn more about the political and moral plague that has labelled America's children "America's Most Unwanted"! Thanks to Bob Histing and his Assortment of Anonymous Assistants and Fair Booth Volunteers for this big success!
Again this year, the booth featured our special local "logo" items, designed to spread the word about Alabama Citizens for Life: our ACL-M t-shirt, our logo mug, and a pencil bearing our name and contact information. The front of the t-shirt bears a red, white & blue "Pro-Life USA" map/flag design identifying ACL-M and the NRLC; our state logo in blue is on the back. These items may also be made available at various other events during the year, offered as premiums for modest donations. We hope more and more of our members and friends will acquire these to wear or display frequently. Help us make pro-lifers in the Mobile area aware that they have available to them a nationally-networked pro-life organization with expertise and experience to assist their efforts for the babies.
A major ACL project is lobbying, an activity that paid off in a big way with the long-awaited passage of the Woman's Right to Know Act on April 17, 2002. Thanks especially to Cheryl Ciamarra and to ACL-Mobile's own Bill Klein, our current state president, a key legislative activist, and the author of much of each year's pro-life slate.
Very special THANKS to MR. AND MRS. JAY HAFNER and CALAGAZ PHOTO for their assistance in the printing and mailing of our January 2002 Newsletter to thousands of pro-life individuals and churches in the Mobile Bay area. Such generosity and energy are rare and certainly appreciated.

Alabama Citizens for Life conducts various on-going WORK AND PROJECTS, including DEVELOPING local ACL chapters to articulate the pro-life message on the local level; PUBLISHING ACL News, the state newsletter of Alabama Citizens for Life; PROVIDING pro-life interviews and information for newspapers, television and radio; DISTRIBUTING educational materials; PROMOTING programs and activities which increase respect for the worth and dignity of human life; LOBBYING in support of state and federal laws which protect human life; PREPARING and publishing candidate surveys on abortion.
Alabama Citizens for Life's mission is "working to restore legal protection for those members of our human family who are threatened by abortion, infanticide, and euthanasia." We invite and urge you to join us! It really is "a matter of CHOICE"! The CHOICE we have is clear: We must stand and fight for a philosophy of LIFE, or sit on the sidelines and surrender to a philosophy of DEATH!

The National Right to Life Committee, Inc., is probably the most widely known and highly respected pro-life group in America today -- especially in Washington, D.C., where it maintains an office originally born to coordinate the local grassroots organizations that sprang up shortly before and after the infamous Roe vs. Wade decision. It has not forgotten its beginnings. It is unusual among national offices in being truly grassroots-oriented and controlled -- "bottom-up," rather than "top- down." It both provides feedback to and accepts feedback from the local pro- life groups that formed it.
It constantly monitors events in the United States Congress, the federal judiciary, and the executive offices, as well as non-governmental national institutions, for its local members. It also provides those local members a permanent, respected, and powerful lobbying presence in government and a unified voice addressing the national media. One of its most effective branches is its political action committee: NRL-PAC. The NRLC publishes roll call votes and yearly summaries; coordinates a national voter- identification program; and maintains its own pro-life legal branch, the National Right to Life General Counsel's office (often quoted by the media). It does its best to promote networking not only among its own local groups, but also among all non-violent pro-life groups and people, nationwide, accomplished partly through its special Outreach Department. It provides more services and contacts than can possibly be listed here!
It is equally involved in education of the general public regarding all issues that arise respecting abortion, infanticide, and euthanasia. Its National Right to Life News provides full and timely coverage of related events, debates, and research, not only for members but also for the general public through many schools, offices, and public libraries across the nation. Both current issues and an archive of the NRL News are available on the web at http://www.nrlc.org/news/index.h tml. Visit its site and keep yourself up to date! Subscription information and current federal legislative alerts are always available in its pages! CONTACT INFO FOR THE NRL NEWS IS
In colleges and high schools across the nation, the NRLC's special branches for young people are highly active. (Teens for Life has energy that often amazes us!) Other educational efforts include distribution of well written, reliable, accurate monographs, pamphlets, and reprints on a wide range of specific topics; provision of highly competent speakers; an annual national convention with an excellent array of up-to-the-minute workshops, programs, and general sessions; publicity supporting sister pro-life organizations; public relations work with major media; the Outreach Department, mentioned above, and more! It also extends its efforts worldwide through a burgeoning international association of right-to-life groups. It maintains a special Office of Education & Research. The National Right to Life Committee, Inc., has long proven itself a major force in spreading the pro-life philosophy and pro-life information.
IN ALL OF THESE EFFORTS, IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN RESOLUTELY SINGLE-ISSUE AND NON-VIOLENT. It takes no positions on any other political issues, and includes members of all political persuasions. It publicly and privately condemns violent actions, urging restraint. Its policy is to abide by current laws even while it seeks to change them.
