[90]
#Another researcher ( Howard Kent Fox) located the Marriage record for John and Mary (book 2, no.386, But;ler County, PA). It shows a 25 year old "Judson G." McKissick, white,
resident of Clay Twp, Butler Co., PA,
parents: William and Susan McKissick,
occupation: farmer
marrying: Mary E. Irwin, age 23 yrs, white
resident of of Center Twp, Butler Co., Pa
parents: Samuel and Jane Irwin
occupation: housekeeper
License issued by Reuben McElwain, Clerk Orphan's Court, Butler Co., PA
January 25, 1887
Certificate signed by W.P. Shaw, Minister of the Gospel, at Holyoke, Center Twp
for John G. McKissick and Miss Mary E. Irwin on Jan 26, 1887.
---------------------------
["John" may have been a nickname for Judson (his daughter's death certificate lists him as "John").
His middle name does appear to be Grant, though the 1900 census record for Kingfisher Co., OK shows a middle initial of "J"(I assume this to be a mistake made by the census taker or an initial for 'John'). Most information from the marriage record agrees with the 1900 OK census records.]
---------------------------------------------
John and Mary were in Kansas (possibly Sumner Co.) just eight months after the were married - may have possibly left because this would mean Mary was pregnant at the time of marriage - their first son, Ford, was born in Kansas, August, 1887. They were in in Sumner County, Kansas when their first daughter, Miretta Pearl was born in 1888.
They had arrived in Oklahoma, most likely Kingfisher County by April, 1892 (daughter Edith was born there per census records). Probably migrated during one of the "runs" into Oklahoma.
Their third child, Leona, was buried at the age of two in Lyon Cemetery, Kingfisher County in November, 1893.
The 1900 Federal Census for Oklahoma places the family in Sherman Township, Kingfisher County, along with Robert Irwin (32 yrs old, listed as brother-in-law) and Susan McKissck (listed as mother).
The Oklahoma Genealogical Society could not locate Judson in 1910 ,Oklahoma.
An M.E. McKissick is listed in 1906 Hennessey Township, Kingfisher County
(19 North, Range 7, Section 28), as a property owner. This is possibly Judson's wife Mary Elizabeth. Because Judson (John) is listed as head of household per 1900 census records, I can only surmise he passed away between 1900 and 1906 in Kingfisher County, Oklahoma. However, I recently came upon a reference to his death in Washington County around 1930.
Perhaps I need to search censuses under various first names for Judson.
There is a reference to son, Earl I. in "Soldiers of the Great War - World War I - Oklahoma", (transcribed by Jane Boggess), having served and died in WWI, 1917, out of Bartlesville, Washington County, Oklahoma. Another researcher also located a Washington County newspaper article referring to Mary McKissick as a mother of a WWI vet. Eldest son, Ford, died in Oklahoma. Mary, probably passed away in Washington County, OK..
NOTES OF INTEREST:
A Robert James McKissick buried in Hennessey Cemetery, Kingfisher County, 1860-1922. (Old Section, Block 332, Lot 1\2 of 1 [assuming he was married]).
A B.J. McKissick is listed in 1906 Union Township, as a property owner, Kingfisher County(18 North, Range 6, Section 25)
[*both listings courtesy of Kingfisher County GenWeb Board, transcribed by Barbara Clayton]
-Also of note, per the 1900 census record, Susan, John's mother, only had one child -
if this is true, neither could be her children, but are too old to be children of John or
Mary.
GOING BACK TO PENNSYLVANIA:
- NOTES ON SEARCH FOR WILLIAM MCKISSICK, JUDSON'S FATHER
I located the following:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
PA 1850 Census, Butler Co., Centre Township:
----------
(MAY BE MISSING HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD & SPOUSE)
MCKISSICK, James, 30, M
Sussanah, 20, F
John 19, M
William, 16, M
Jane, (13 or 15), F
Sarah, 4, F
[This is the only family showing a William who may be the appropriate age to be Judson's father. This family may be headed by oldest sibling?]
---------
John MCKISSICK, 55, M, Farmer
Sarah, 56, F
Rebecca, 30, F
Thompson, 25, M, Farmer
David, 22, M, Farmer
Robert 19, M, Farmer
Sarah, 15, F
Josiah, 10, M
--------------------------------------------------
PA 1860 Census, Butler Co.-
MCKISSICK, William, #173, Centre Township
[data noting this William's wife as "Susannna" provided by Howard Fox]
Both anther researcher and I located this census record: 1860, Butler Co. showing a William and "Susanna" McKissick. The other researcher was not able to locate an 1870 or 1880 census record for William. He however, did find an 1870 census record, Butler County, for a Susan McKissick (all data matching confirmed Oklahoma 1900 census data), living in a household headed by Mary CROP and living with a PATTERSON family, which includes JUDSON PATTERSON, age 9. Based on the unusual first name this must be the same "Judson". He may have been adopted into the family but it seems more likely that this census taker just made an error as he was living in this household with his mother. A logical conclusion is that William, Judson's father, may not have been alive in 1870, possibly killed in Civil War.
Another possibility--either CROP or PATTERSON may be Susan's maiden name and she went to live with them after losing her husband.
-----------------------------------------------------
I located the same Butler County, PA census record--for 1870:
"MCKISSOCK", Susan, age 33, female, white, b. in PA, Clay Township, roll 1315, page 127
possibly related:
PA 1870 Census, Butler County
MCKISSOCK, Rebecca, 55 female, white, b.PA, Clay Twp, roll 1315, page 122
MCKISSOCK, Robert, 11 male, white, b. PA, Clay Twp, roll 1315, page 126
MCKISSOCK, Robert, 38 male , white, b. PA, Clay Twp, roll 1315, page 124
MCKISSOCK, Sarah, 74 female, white, b.PA, Clay Twp, roll 1315, page 124
(*The ages of these four APPROXIMATELY coincide with those of the second family listed above for the 1850 census transcription)
I also found nothing for William in 1870.
Per the 1850 census records for Clay Twp, Sarah is the older Robert's mother and Rebecca may be Sarah's unmarried daughter (age is off by 5 years). Sarah could be Susan's mother-in-law and Robert a brother-in-law, but neither are shown with a William in the family in earlier census records?.[Per the 1900 Oklahoma census, Susan only had one child.]
[I have the 1791-1840 Butler County census records, but need to research further]
#need to check 1880 PA census records for Judson--need to locate them 1887-1889 in Kansas. (possibly Sumner County).
#They are not listed in 1890 OK special census (not necessarily complete).
#ck death/cemetery records in Kingisher County/Washington County, OK for Susan MCKISSICK, Judson/John Grant #MCKISSICK, and Mary Elizabeth IRWIN MCKISSICK
#ck for will records for these people
#ck 1840 PA census records--anything for Butler County (**find death record for William)

[FROM ABSTRACTS OF WILLS IN ORANGE COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA 1800-1850.]
RANY, WILLIAM WILL DATED 24 JULY 1797, PROVED AUG 1813. WIFE: MARY. SON: DAVID RANY; GRANDSONS: WILLIAM BAKER (UNDER AGE), WM. RANY GWIN (UNDER AGE), WILLIAM RANY. JOHN BAKER (NO RELATIONSHIP STATED);- BROTHER DAVID RANY-. EXECUTORS: WIFE MARY AND SON DAVID RANY. WIT: WM THRAILKILL, JOHN GIL, AND ROBERT DUNCAN.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There was a William Baker and John Baker, Sr. living with a David RAINEY, and several of his children, (listed are three males under 16 and six females), in Fayette, Anson County (later part of Orange County, NC) per the North Carolina census 1790 schedules.
(No other listing for a David Rainey found on this schedule)
However, there is also a land grant from William Rainey to a John BAKER, Aug 7, 1782, Deed Book 2, page 385-
David could have still lived with his father, William, at this time. William was shown with four white polls (males over 16). Benjamin had his own land at this time so I'm not sure who the other two males are.
(Source: 1790 US Federal Census Schedules for North Carolina , -agrees w/ inf in 'Rainey Times', Vol.3, 1983 pgs. 140-141).
_____________________________________________
A David RAINEY died in Orange County, c.1801, with several children.(named in his will are: sons - James, John, David and daughters - Catherine and Jinny, and wife Jinsy[?]). (Rainey Times, Vol.3, 1983 pgs. 140-141.) In this David's will, several children are named, none of them William, and no grandchildren.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Anson County David Rainey was probably William Rainey's brother, given the ages in household, but then what is the Baker relationship? The John Baker, Sr., mentioned above could have been a son-in-law to William Rainey, and nephew by marriage to David. Thus, William Baker becomes John Baker's son, David's nephew, and William's Grandson.
However, if the Anson County David Rainey was William Rainey's son, John Baker could have been a brother-in-law.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The 1800 Census for Orange County, North Carolina shows a David 'Rainney'[this spelling does not reappear in later census'] with two males between ages 26 and 45, two females ages 26-45.
A second David 'Rainney' is shown in 1800 Orange county with one male under 10, one male 16-25, one male over 45, 3 females 16-25, and one female over 45.
**Unless William Rainey's brother David was born 1755(which would mean a thirty year age difference), I can for now, rule him out as belonging to the first 1800 David Rainey household.
He could belong to the second David 'Rainney' family shown in the 1800 census as there is one male over 45. Also, this family would have appeared on the 1790 census assuming they had lived in Orange county at this time.
This second David 'Rainney' must be the one who died c.1801 in Orange County, as the other David 'Rainney' is not shown with any children in 1800. [ref: will record above]. He does not appear in the 1810 census for North Carolina. He must also be the former resident of Anson County. [ There were 3 males under 16 and 6 females shown in the Anson County David's home. It is likely that ten years later one of them would have remained and the only male shown in the first David's home is at least 26]. This David does not mention any relatives by the last name BAKER in his will. This could explain that there was only a relationship to them via William RAINEY (that David was related to the Bakers only by marriage).
**For now, I will presume that the Anson County David Rainey, the David Rainey who died c.1801, and the 1800 David 'Rainney' with the larger family are one and the same. Also, given the ages, this David Rainey should be the brother of William Rainey.
The David 'Rainney' shown in 1800 Orange County with the smaller household is either the son of William Rainey or the grandson of William Rainey (The first David Rainey's son).
Need to confirm source: David Rainey Sr.'s son, David, Jr. had moved to Tennessee by 1810.
