Sweet, Sweet, Babe

A Touched By Life Poem about  Linda Diane Newell

Sweet, Sweet, babe with your yellow white hair
And eyes that follow me everywhere,
Do you sense how much for you I care?

I hold you tightly wrapped in pink flannel,
A Carter's knit gown tied around your toes.
A soft warm bundle I love to hold.
You squirm upon my shoulder
and wrinkle up your little nose.

How could I know that all too soon
A hole would tear my heart,
Grief singing a mournful tune,
An emptiness within our rooms.

A passage all too swift was yours.
Your days fell prey to unkind fate
Cut short while still in promise.
