This painting
and "Vessels" draw upon some of my six years of experience in Belly
Dancing. I am incorporating the ancient meaning and forms of the dance,
which reach back at least 4000 years. The Pre-Dynastic "Bird Ladies" of
Egypt, featured in museums around the world and at the end of this page,
are not birds at all, but dancers, who draw down precious rain from
the skies with graceful hand movements.
