The first mention of Rivne dates back to 1282. From 1457 - under foreign (Lithuanian, later - Polish) control. In the 16th century it grew into a major trade center of the area. In 1793 it went under Russian control. During World War II Rivne was the capital of the occupied Ukraine. For average tourist Rivne is just a place to have lunch or overnight en route Kyiv - Lviv. Longer stay can be planned for tourists having ethnic roots in the area on request.
