M101A-ST9E-LRGB.jpg

Here are sample deep sky CCD images taken by Commander EWALT using Santa Barbara Instrument Group Cameras, Models ST7E and ST9E. These images are taken through a MEADE LX200 10" f/6.3 S/C Scope.

The center image above is M-101, a Beautifull Face-on Spiral Galaxy in URSA MAJOR. Sometimes seen with binoculars, this large deep sky wonder normally requires a telescope of 6" or more aperture for a visual observation. ST9E LRGB Image.

This is a ST9E LRGB Image of M-51, The Famous "WHIRLPOOL" Face-on Spiral Galaxy in CANES VENATICI. This is one of the most photographed objects in the heavens above. ST9E LRGB Image. M51A-ST9E-LRGB.jpg
M104H-ST9E-LRGB.jpg M-104 The "Sombrero" Side-on SpiralGalaxy in VIRGO. ST9E LRGB Image.
M-42 and M-43 The "Great HII Emission Nebulae" in ORION. ST9E LRGB Image. To the naked eye, this object appears as the fuzzy "middle star" in ORION's sword. ST9E LRGB Image. M42-ST9E-LRGB.jpg
NGC2024-ST9E-LRGB.jpg NGC 2024 - The "Flame Nebulae" in ORION, The bright star in the lower right hand corner with the blue difraction ring, is ZETA ORIONIS. ST9E LRGB Image.
NGC1977 is a beautifull HII Emission Nebulae in ORION. To the naked eye, this object appears as the top "fuzzy star" in ORION's sword. ST9E LRGB Image. NGC1977-ST9E-LRGB.jpg
M13-ST7E-LRGB.jpg M-13 Globular Cluster in HERCULES. The largest of its type in Northern Spring Skies. This cluster contains upwards of 100,000 densely packed 9 to 15th magnitude member stars, among the oldest know in our home galaxy, the Milky Way. The age of these stars accounts for their yellow to redish gold colors. ST7E LRGB Image.
M-67 Open Cluster in CANCER. The cluster consists of upwards of 300+ loosely packed relatively young 8 to 12th magnitude member stars. The age of these stars accounts for their blue to bluish white colors. Stars seen in this image with gold to redish colors are not cluster members. ST7E LRGB Image. M67-ST7E-LRGB.jpg
M27-ST7E-LRGB.jpg M-27 The "Dumb Bell" Planetary Nebula in VULPECULA. This nebula may be a supernova remnant, since it is known to be an expanding spherical shell. It is imbedded in the dense star fields of the summer milky way. It is an easy object for visual observation in most amateur telescopes. ST7E LRGB Image.
M-57 The "Ring Nebula" in LYRA. This planetary is a difficult object to resolve details in CCD imaging because it is both bright and small in size, at only 2.5' in diameter. It is, however, an easy object for visual observation in most amateur telescopes and is seen as a small grey "smoke ring". ST9E LRGB Image. M57-ST9E-LRGB.jpg
M63-ST9E-LRGB.jpg M-63 (NGC 5055) The "SUNFLOWER" Multiarm Spiral Galaxy, in CANES VENATICI. Difficult to rersolve significant detail in the many spiral arms. Seen visually in most amateur telescopes as an elongated faint grey smudge. ST9E LRGB Image.
