The "Battleship Texas Amateur Radio Station (BTARS)"participates in "Yuletide Texas."

BTARS participated in a special one day event on the Battleship Texas called “Yuletide Texas” on Saturday, December 1st, 2001. We used the FCC assigned radio call KD5PEA. Our vanity call NA5DV is pending. The original radio call for the Texas was NADV.

This was a kid-oriented Christmas event. A number of children were able to talk with radio amateurs in other cities in the United States and Canada. We had two transceivers in operation making contacts on 20 meters and on the local two meter repeaters. Several HVRA members exhibited vintage radios for visitors.

On November 24th we set up the station in the old Bursar's Office in preparation for "yuletide Texas" on the following Saturday. Several had old radios to demonstrate to the public. Joel Newman, KD5MZG, set up his 2 meter rig and hit a number of the area repeaters. We also set up the station's donated transceiver on 20 meters and talked to several stations including a long QSO with a Canadian station. Several of the visiting kids got to talk with the Canadian station and another in Georgia. It was a good "shake down."
