Geometric Articulation and Annunciation
In the terms used to describe 3D Facial Animations, I am hesitant to use the terms Geometric Adjustments
or Movement. The terms used in relation to Human Speeh, "Articulation and Annunciation: are more correct when describing the Facial Animation related to Inexed Zone
Mapping techniques. As with the Human Face, we are not just dealing with the mouth movements to illustrate word formations. The Lips, Teeth and Tongue place an
important roll in how words are formed and articulated by the Facial geometry. They all work together to provide not only the correctly annunciated sound, but the visual
effect of these organs as well. This type of visual effect is not possible with Full Image Mapping techniques. Warping the geometry and the graphic mapping merely
distorts the image until it is either grossly out of proportions, or beyond acceptable recognition standards, Below are two separate graphics that illustrate the articulation

As you can see, The articulation of her Mouth, Teeth, and Tongue all work together to provide the required Recognition Effect that is necessary. We are also able to
incorporate highlights which just aren't possible with full image geometrical mapping.
