Now an active artist in the small Texas town where he was once a beloved family physician, Gary Bachers creates art that transcends the visual. He began his career as a visual artist in 1988. The previous year, at the age of 38, he had suffered a debilitating stroke that forced him to retire from practicing family medicine. The stroke robbed him of the ability to speak or to produce conventional language. Communication became difficult for Bachers, until he discovered a new language of visual art.
