This was an interesting stop on the WWW. I was in from 9/67 to 9/73. Great Lakes Boot, Polaris Schools at Damneck, then the 657, 658, and Simion Lake. The tender in Rota for my last 6 months was payback because I would not re-up.

I would appreciate any help. My Norwegian grandfather served on the USS 111. I haven't found anything on the web yet. His name was Rasmus Synes who orginally was a Norwegian merchant marine from Vigra, Norway. A tiny island off the west coast of Norway. When Norway was taken over he was out at sea and since he was unable to return he joined the US Navy to help bring men back and forth from Greenland. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide. Anita

I am not in the military, however my biological father was in the Marines (pilot on the USS Ponce) and I have some interest in a man I recently met who is stationed in Virginia Beach. He works on a nuclear sub and I apologize but the name escapes me at the moment. I happened to be looking up some naval websites and stumbled across your page. Very nice! Thanks for letting me look around.

George, Great WEB page. I was a surface sailor myself. Now am working for USIA (VOA) currently in Mannheim Germany. VOA has other stations in the Philippines where I spent four years there working. Prior to that was in Morocco building a radio station there for three years. Have a house in Ludington where I'll probably settle down in a few years and travel south for the winter. John

Submarines fasinate me very much. With how they're able to dive to such depths and still stay at speeds of over 25-30 knots. I'm really fasinated by the way they use missles. Out the door went the guns of the old U-boats, now it is the new age of Trident, Tomahawk and other SSM missiles,(the Russians are even on the brink of a SAM missile). It will be no time before the United States and Russians have a stalth submarine, well it is probably no dought in construction or being thought of. Also, the U.S. and the Russians have such a inventory of submarines, over a hundread, when you count the older ones it would be a remarkable amount,(the money they spend, huh). Soon the Typhoon and Ohio class submarines will be no good with there big size because a smaller sub with better technology could so much faster and do the same things with smaller crews, for less money. All the subs they are making, they better watch out for Anti Submarine Warfare (ASW) helo's and ships. Well I guess that is my in depth reason why I am fasinated by submarines.
