Here's
the quick story on how we ended up at Hershey Park for Creation 96.
In 95, heavy storms and flooding occured in the weeks leading up to Creation.
Just one day before the gates were to open, The decision was made that
it would be too dangerous to hold Creation with the dangerous weather conditions
present, and so it was essentially postponed till 96. Well, in 96
the same weather conditions cropped up again. With about a week and
a half to go before the start of the festival, Harry and Tim knew they
wouldn't be able to have the festival at Agape. The weather was too
dangerous again. Cancelling another year would have meant financial
disaster. They studied the Pennsylvania map and prayed that God would
show them an alternate location. They were led to Hershey and immediately
made the call. The folks at Hershey told them that the week of Creation
was the only open week they had all year. The arena and stadium were
available all week and there was plenty of surrounding land. A few
days later the move was on and the festival was transferred to Hershey,
which is about 2 hours east of Mount Union. 96 was an awesome year.
The move to Hershey was nothing short of a miracle. Hershey will
never replace the Agape Farm, but we will always have fond memories of
our time there. We met new friends, some of whom we still camp with.
We'll never forget the trips to Kmart for camping supplies and outdoor
toys, exploring the local river for a bathing spot, and going to Chocolate
World for clean bathrooms, free candy, milkshakes and food.
Check
out the pictures on the next page. Many thanks to Glenn for scanning
them in and making them available. Enjoy! |
