Burlap
To Cashmere
After
several years perfecting their music in small NYC venues, they landed a
deal with a mainstream record label and Steve Taylor's Squint Entertainment.
They made waves at GMA 98 and wowed the crowd at Creation 98. Their
return to Creation in 99 was just as impressive. One reviewer commented
that truly revolutionary groups only come along every once in a great many
years. He hailed Burlap as just such a band. I
agree that their music is unlike anything else out there. I had the
chance to see them live and I heard elements from a variety of music styles.
These guys have got chops and the album is a winner from beginning to end!
Some of their songs, like Basic Instructions and Anybody Out
There tore up the radio charts. Check them out, you won't be
disappointed. |
I
think so. Michael W. Smith has definitely got something going with
his label.
Artists
like Chris Rice, Watermark, and Nicole C. Mullen are household names.
Other artists on the label are sure to become very popular in the future.
The
Exodus Project which features worships song from Jars of Clay, Dc Talk,
Third Day, Cindy Morgan, Crystal Lewis, and others is a Rocketown product
and a huge success. Check out their website and get up to speed.
Rocketown has got some truly great music that won't leave you disappointed. |

Chris
Rodriguez
This guy has been playing guitar for a long time and he is very good.
Old MWS fans will remember him from the early concert tours and videos.
Over the years he has rejoined Michael for festival shows, toured with
other well known musicians, and logged countless hours in the studio.
In addition to his guitar work, he has been a popular choice to sing
background vocals. Now the secret is out that Chris has a very cool
voice. Instead of blazing solos and killer riffs, his debut, "Beggar's
Paradise" deliver's twelve cuts of pure songwriting genius. This
guy is good and this not the usual CCM fare. More importantly, he
is a strong Christian, and it is evident throughout the project.
Pair that up with really good songs and you've got a homerun. The
album serves up some cool pop rock like the title "Beggar's Paradise" and
the driving "Walk You to the Sun", lighter fare like "The Valley Road"
and the acoustic tune "Waiting", and even some classical guitar work on
"Magdalene" which is based on Jesus' appearance to Mary Magdalene in the
garden after his resurrection. This collection of songs is an A+
and then some. Go get it! |
Jody
Davis
Jody
Davis is probably best known as a guitarist for the Newsboys. Like
bandmate Phil Joel, he has stepped into the spotlight with his own self
titled solo project. This one is definitely not just another pop
record, and is different from Jody's work with the Newsboys. His
attempts to capture a live sound similar to what was done in the 60's and
70's yields a phenomenal sound to go along with some really groovy songs.
The guitar work is impeccable and the drums are kickin'. This is
stuff that will really get you moving. In addition to rocking tunes
like "The Crush of Love", "Climbing to Your Throne", "Satellite", and the
smooth "Velveteen", Jody adds an awesome cover of the classic hit "Light
Of The World/Love is the Answer". Like many good rock musicians,
his voice is unique and serves to drive home the message of the songs.
Jody is no longer with Newsboys and his website is gone, but if you
can find this CD it is well worth it. |

Australia has us given some fine Christian Music over the years.
Well, the tradition continued with PC3. They've got some serious
groove! They'll have your head bobbin' and your body weavin'.
Their smash single "Turn" has gotten loads of radio time. This is
a must have disc. Their second album was equally as good as the
first and very successful on radio. Since the release of that album
Paul and the band have parted ways and he will be continuing on as a solo
artist. |

Creation
Worships
Recorded live at Creation, the nation's largest Christian Music festival,
this is another must have disc, especially for anyone who is really into
worship music. This CD just as good as other popular worship CDs,
such as the Passion series. It includes songs like: Open the
eyes, Take Me Higher, Your Love is Deep, and Trading My Sorrows.
Some of the biggest names in worship music, including Paul Baloche, Rita
Springer, Lincoln Brewster, and Jami Smith, were a part of this awesome
experience. |
