New Orleans is one of the most haunted cities in the United States, but we also learned that New Orleans is America's Cultural Capital!

The French Quarter is one of the oldest sections in New Orleans. It's a little over a mile long and a half mile wide. The French Quarter has a lot of history, as early as the late 1690's. The murders was so high along with yellow fevers, thieves, criminals, and several major fires that killed a lot of people in those days. Today the French Quarter is much safer, cleaner, and poplar with tourists. However there is plenty of GHOSTS!
Chicago, Washington D.C., New York, Philadelphia, and even Seattle are some of the most haunted cities in the United States.Alton, Illinois is voted as the most haunted town in the United States. Those cities and Alton you might need a car that will take you from a haunted place to other haunted place. I believe that the French Quarter has a high population of ghosts per blocks, than anywhere in the United States or even in North America. The Key West, Florida and Charleston, South Carolina are close second. You don't need a car in the French Quarter, so you need a good pair of gymshoes, confortable clothes, and a camera. There is at least 50 places that are haunted in the French Quarter. I would not name all the places that are haunted. I suggest a great book that you should buy before you go to New Orleans. JOURNEY INTO DARKNESS GHOSTS AND VAMPIRES OF NEW ORLEANS. By Kalila Katherina Smith Published by De Simonin Publications. If you do not go to New Orleans, the book is a great to add for your ghost books library. You can purchase the book on The Haunted History Tours or New Orleans Paranormal and Occults Research Society Links is on the bottom of this page. The book will show you almost all the places to be haunted with addresses, stories to be facts and even intresting photographs. If you ever heard of Voodoo, witches, and even vampires walk in the French Quarter. Then do not worry about them. Most of those people are nice so if you respect them then you will be all right. I don't have any problems with them. However there's might be dangerous so stay with your friends. Just common sense and do not walk alone at late night on alone dark street. Stay with your friends and by a crowd. Put your wallet in front of your pants or do not carry a large purse. I highly recommend that you should take The Haunted History Tours. The guide will take you to the places that are suppose to be haunted. Take plenty of pictures and you might never know to get something on your film. The Haunted History Tours do provided the Ghost, Voodoo/Cemetery , Vampire , and Witchcraft Tours. Here's a few places that Pam and I went for our own investigations.

The LaLauire Mansion (The Haunted House)
1140 Royal Street

Murdered ghosts and LaLauire's ghost. Madame LaLauire tortured her slaves. At least a dozen deaths in the mansion. There is appropriate six or maybe more ghosts including Madame Delphine LaLauire. Sounds of footsteps, unexplain noises, screaming, and phantoms are common in and around the Mansion. Try to take plenty of photographs on the second floor where one window is bricked up, corner of the Royal and Gov Nicholls Street, and around the Mansion. Be careful that the Mansion is private so respect it. Also be careful, you might to face the LaLauire's ghost. She might be a very mean, evil, and sick in mind ghost you ever encounter so LEAVE IMMEDIATELY!

Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop
941 Bourbon Street

The shop was built in the 1720's and the bar is still open, since 1772 which is the oldest bar in the United States! Today, the bar is considered to be one of the most haunted bar in the country! The ghosts of soldiers, spies, pirates, and a lady in black. No one know who is the lady in black and she probably looking for her lost soldier or perfer to stay in the bar and not move on. Check the corners, paino bar area, and fireplace which is a good place to spot a ghost. Try to be there as soon as the sunset because there will be crowd in the bar, even during the week! Or if you can stay as late as one hour before it closed. Try to take some photogrpahs at the corners in good distances, paino bar, and fireplace area but just to make sure do not disturbed the customers! Use the flash for better result for something on the photographs.
Pam and I enjoyed our drinks and we gave a good tip to the worker so he gave us some good information about ghost reports in the Blacksmith Shop. We saw a strange woman, who worean all black dress, black hair, and a black purse with a skull and crossed bones. We think that she's a vampire. Or She could be the imitator as wanna-be vampire. The vampires don't suck on your neck like in movies. They do even drink some blood, but dark clothes and stay awake all night and sleep during the day. That's what real vampires do. Some believe there's real vampires and other not. Intresting is that there have lot of candles in the Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop. The candles in the shop's reason is for WELCOME VAMPIRES! You can find more informations about the vampires in New Orleans is JOURNEY INTO DARKNESS GHOSTS AND VAMPIRES OF NEW ORLEANS book. By Kalila Katherina Smith.

The Bottom of the Cup Tearoom
732 Royal Street

World's famous tearoom, also the tearoom is the oldest in the United States since 1929. The worker in the Bottom of the Cup Tearoom informed us that Julie's ghost is very actively in the building, also she looks out of windows on the second floor. Julie was dancing on the roof for her lover. Julie want to prove that how much she love him. The gentleman played chess and smokes cigars with his friends. He forgot about Julie. Julie was cold, wet, and dead on the roof, so now she still searches for her lover. I do not understand why not psychic mediums in The Bottom of Cup Tearoom help her to move to the light so maybe they did try. Julie might refuse to move on until she finds her lover.
Try to take photographs of the first floor also up the seocnd floor. Watch out for cars and people before take pictures! Check your photographs on the windows that you might find Julie's face.

The Pirate's Alley

The Parate's Alley is a small street, but easy to find. Its by the famous St. Louis Cathedral and between Chartres and Royal Street. Pirates and privateers doing blackmarket such as liquor, women, guns and slaves in the alley. Several or probably many were fighting to death as pistol being shot and swords. The ghosts of pirates, several unknown people and even monks walked in this alley. The sounds of pistol being shot, swords clashing, footsteps and arguments speaking in French and Spanish.
Try to take plenty of photographs in the alley in early in the morning and you might hear the sounds of pistols being shot or swords clashing. Try tape recorders! People reported see a ghost in the alley at very late night, so I believe the more active in the alley would be where there's a much less crowd.

There's much more places to go but we don't have time however we will come back for more investigations.
The Garden District is only a 5 minutes drive from the French Quarter. 8 to 10 minuteson streetcar. Many large mansion! Anne Rice's home is in the Garden District. 1891 Castle Inn of New Orleans is a large brick mansion and it has three ghosts or maybe more. More details about the 1891 Castle Inn is 1891 Castle Inn, New Orleans page in this website.
Lafayette Cemetery No.1 on Washington Street and just south from famous St. Charles Street. Intresting and old cemetery. Several ghosts walk in this cemetery but many believe that the Lafayette Cemetery No.1 is the most haunted cemetery in New Orleans. Several horror movies were filmed in this cemetery.
Several ghosts in old hotels on St. Charles Street.
