• Demerris Brooks, Principal

Demerris Brooks is the principal of Gunderson High School.  She has been with San Jose unified School District for 8 years as a teacher, Assistant Principal, and Manager before coming to GHS.  She is an alumnae of Notre Dame High school in San Jose and has earned a B.A. in English Literature from the University of California at Berkeley, an M.A. in Education from Stanford University, and an M.A. in Educational Administration from Santa Clara University.  Demerris is from a family of educators, enjoys working with middle and high school students and finds her work both exciting and fulfilling.
• Jeannette Harding, Foundation Tresurer, Teacher, and Alumnea

Jeannette Harding, also a 1988 graduate of Gunderson High School, returned to the school to teach in 1996.  She teaches World History and Social Science and chaired the Social Sciences Department from 1998 to 2000.  Jeannette attended San Jose State University earning her BA and MA in History, and her MA in Administration and Supervision.  She is also a graduate of the California School Leadership Academy program.  She was a member of the grant writing team for Gunderson’s Bay Area School Reform Collaborative grant.  She also co-coordinates the Link Crew program at Gunderson.
 
• Jim Henderson, IBM, retired

Jim Henderson is a graduate of San Francisco State University with a Bachelor's degree in accounting.  He retired from IBM after a 30 year career in 1999.  He held various management positions for 18 of those 30 years.  Most of his time was spent in finance and accounting.  From 1993-1999, Jim managed IBM's K-12 community relations and public affairs programs in California.  From 1999-2002, Jim was a consultant with the San Jose Unified School District where he directed the high school transformation project.  Jim is now an instructor at West Valley College in the Business Department.  Jim has been married to Judi for 34 years and has 1 daughter, Jill, living in Portland.
 
• Veronica Lewis, SJUSD School Board of Trustees, Parent

Veronica Lewis is a parent of three Gunderson High School graduates.  In 1994, Veronica was elected to the San Jose Unified School District Board of Trustees and was elected to her third term in 2002.  At the end of 2002, she completed her second term as School Board President.  Veronica graduated from Sunnyvale High School and attended De Anza College.  She has been an active school parent volunteer since 1974 at several San Jose Unified schools including Carson, Muir, Steinbeck, Pioneer, and Gunderson.  Veronica was also San Jose Unified School District Bond Measure C Committee Chairperson.
 
• Dr. Linda Murray (ex-officio Director), SJUSD Superintendant

Dr. Linda Murray has been the Superintendent of San Jose Unified School District since July of 1993.  She attended Hartwick College in New York and earned her Doctorate from State University of New York at Albany.  Under Linda's leadership, the district has increased student performance each year; SJUSD has expanded the number of Blue Ribbon Schools to 8  and Distinguished Schools to 19; she has led the successful passgage of two major bond measures, $165 million and $429 million for
improvement of district schools.

Linda is a member of numerous local community and service organization boards, among them, Goodwill Industries, O'Connor Hospital, Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce, Mayor's Task Force on Education, Sharks Foundation, and City Year.   She has been named Woman of Achievement in Education and Woman of the Year for the 24th Congressional District.
 

• Robyn Schlice, Foundation Secretary, Alumnea

Robyn Schlice graduated from Gunderson High School in 1988.  She earned her BS in Administration of Justice and an MA in Political Science and Public Administration from San Jose State University.  Robyn's career focus, both during and since college, has been in working with at-risk youth.  She is employed by the Santa Clara County Superior Court Probation Department, and has worked with the Boys Ranch, Juvenile Drug Court and is now Project Coordinator for the Educational Rights Project, a collaborative effort to identify and serve children needing educational services.
 
• Ronnie Townsend, Foundation Vice President, Parent

Ronnie L. Townsend, is a 4 year Gunderson parent and 19 year computer industry veteran, most recently a software engineer with Sun Microsystems. A graduate of Oak Ridge High School in Orlando, FL, he earned his BA from Harvard University.  A strong believer in the power and importance of education, Ronnie is also a member of an SJUSD task force chartered with implementing programs to improve the reading level and overall academic achievement of Gunderson's diverse student body.  Involved in youth sports, he coached PAL football for 6 years.
 
• Greg West, Foundation President, Parent

Gregory J. West is a nine year Gunderson parent and 22 year semiconductor industry veteran, most recently Director of Engineering at Samsung Semiconductor, Inc.  A graduate of Stranahan High School in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, he earned his BS from Milwaukee School of Engineering and MS from Santa Clara University.  A product of public education through high school, Greg is dedicated to the continued success of public schools.  Greg has led youth, community, and school organizations and is also currently Secretary of the SJUSD Measure F Bond Oversight Committee.
