Gunderson High School Foundation 
Meeting Minutes  Monday, October 6, 2003 - 6:00 PM

Attendees: Demerris Brooks, Greg West, Robyn Schlice,  Veronica Lewis, Ronnie Townsend

 * Approval of September, 2003 meeting minutes 
Demerris moved to Approve. Robyn Second motion.  The motion passed unanimously.

* Treasurer's Report  -  Greg obtained financial records from Jeannette and will give them to Jim as soon as Jim returns from his trip. Our current balance is $16,664 including the Fadness Engineering Scholarship Fund.

* Bot Ball - Jim Ritchie - Jim couldn't attend due to a family health issue.  Jim has asked, through Greg, that the Foundation reinstate the $350 grant for last year's Bot-ball registration.  Veronica requested that Jim come and address issues about the confusion regarding payment/entry fee.

* Request for sponsorship to the National Young Leaders Conference - Elvira Paguada
Suggestion made to have student come and present on Conference. Veronica reported that Elvira has also requested funding from the School Board and Pat Dando's office.

* Review Draft Annual Report and consider approval - Greg. - Suggestion to add "Financial support" when describing help provided to the students who participated in the Washington DC trip.  Suggestion to list the Corporate sponsors separately in financial tables.

* HNVF Grant Update - Greg (see written update, below) - Demerris reported that she is actively seeking hires for the College and Career Center. Targeted hire date would be within the next two months.

* Alumni Directory Update (see written update, below) - Greg to review information on Harris & Jim and Greg to report back next meeting on status updates.  14 month process and the clock has started ticking. The last 8 years we have on computers- the rest is on Microfishe. Greg to contact a few foundation members to help with the archives.

* Post Mortem on the Technology Scholarship - All (with Trish Lynch)
Trish would like to open the Multi-media Faire up to the entire school, establish a committee, to show all the work, not just the multi-media/technology classes. Greg will forward her a copy of the application for the scholarship. Possible flyer with application on flip side listing names of previous
recipients.  Suggestion: Judging should be done by a committee. Committee should be
composed of : 1 Foundation member,  Teacher, etc. Trish invited to attend the next meeting. Input from Jim Henderson on the selection process is needed.

* Continue planning for an Alumni Fund Raiser--Spring Crab Feed with Boosters - Greg to re-contact Kanika Ahyo. The event will be in spring and held at the IPA (Police Hall).  Greg to contact Mr. Iverson to find out about cost of Lobster. Greg to find out about costs/ involvement logistic. Boosters had a silent auction and a raffle. Veronica asked about brainstorming for silent auction and advertising event.  Next Booster Club is the second Thursday of the month. Greg will get information from Stephanie Ogden (AP of Activities) re: the meeting.

Suggestion to place advertisement for new Foundation Members on "Classmates.com". Demerris reported there are 4,389 Gunderson Alumni on classmates.com.
Suggestion to look into classmates.com to re-contact alumni about joining. 

* Discussion of  '03-'04 membership drive - All Board Members need to re-up ($25).   -  Part of the drive will be soliciting current members with the Annual report mailing.   Need to look at other venues in addition to mailing and phone drive.  Suggestion to contact PTA & Booster club to find out about joint mailing.  Veronica reported that Pioneer has a "Pride Package" including a Yearbook, ASB Card, coupon card, etc.  Greg will follow up with PTSA and Booster Club on a combined school wide mailing.
