Gunderson High School Foundation Meeting Minutes Monday, January 5, 2004 - 6:00 PM Greg called the meeting to order at 6:06PM. Attendees: Greg West, Ronnie Townsend, Robyn Schlice, Jim Henderson, Demerris Brooks, Jeannette Harding, Veronica Lewis, Linda Murray. * Approval of December 1, 2003 meeting minutes Jim moved (2nd Veronica) to approve the minutes. The motion passed unanimously. * Treasurer's Report - Jim Jim brought signature cards from the bank to update the signers on the account. Greg will mail the letter authorizing the signature changes to Jim with Jeannette's and Greg's signatures. * HNVF Grant Update - Greg, Demerris Quarterly report preparation to take place next week. One person has been hired thus far. Greg and Demerris will meet and confer. * Alumni Directory Update Stephanie is generating names for the list and will work w/ Mitsie to access the archieves. She has seven years on the database. Greg expressed a desire to work with Stephanie on getting copies of the database so he do mailings for the Crab feast * Report on Alumni Fund Raiser--Spring Crab Feed with Boosters (see notes below) Greg reported that Jonathan Byrnes Associates has agreed to sponsor our VIP table. RSVPs- Dando & Veronica will be attending. Dr. Murray suggested inviting scholarship receipients & their guests to fill out the VIP table. The President of the Foundation and a technology teacher (possibly Cliff & a guest). Tickets for Fondation members that have already renewed their memberships will be reduced to a pair for $30 (the same deal offered with the annual report). Any board memeber that wants tickets should bring a check to the next meeting. * Technology Scholarship The concensus of the discussion to release the balance of Luis' Technology Scholarship was to wait until he enters a four year school in which the balance of the funds would likely be used in a term or two. * Continued Discussion of '03-'04 membership drive and Organizational Goals Robyn to coordinate with Ms. Ogden to set up a meeting to speak to the leadership kids in late January. Linda offered to check into Office Depot sponsoring a primium (a certificate for $25 in supplies) for Gunderson teachers that join the Foundation. Linda will work with the district purchasing agent for Office Depot, Pat Day, to check on feasiblity. Discussion on defining Foundation Mission: Tangibles: Technolgy scholarships Professional Development "Icon for the Community" Following the school's mission Supporting teacher release time so that they may get together and develop curriculum that utilizes their new technology. $2400 could purchase 20 sub days so that the time could be used Identify 10 techers that have 2 days to work on projects- Strongest area is Social Studies and English. Student survey- techer survey- what is it they want from us as a Foundation. Building on schools strengths: tecnology, staff compentency, career counselors. Scholarships Trainning for teachers- planning RELEASE TIME FOR CURRICULUM PLANNING with technology (They have the tools and the desire..) Greg will put a straw dog proposal together for circulation to the teachers and staff before the January in-service day. The meeting was adjourned at 7:18PM. * Spring Crab Feast - The date of the event is Saturday, 2/21/04 at the Italian American Heritage Hall in downtown San Jose, 425 N. 4th St. I've gotten 10 VIP and 25 regular tickets from the Booster club. We've gotten one response from a VIP invitee so far. We've also gotten no takers from the roughly 10 memberships that have come in since the Annual Report went out. * Technology Scholarship - I'd like to revisit the administration of Luis' funds. If he has established a good academic record in school, we might want to reconsider our reimbursement policy for his expenses. Ronnie - Can you follow up with Luis to find out his GPA and plans for the next couple years?
