Summary of reserved funds: $500 check to go for EAST conference for a loan, $500 to go to Insurance Luis (technology scholarship) to be paid upon receipt. DC Trip $750. * Insurance - Ronnie moved (Demerris 2nd) to spend $500 for our business insurence. The motion passed unanymously. * Scholarships Greg reported that the Fadness Scholarship application and Technology Schoarship recommendation forms are in the hands of the appropriate people at the school. The application for the Fadness Engineering Scholarship and the Technology Scholarships recommendation are both online at: http://www.ghsFoundation.org/FadnessScholarship.pdf http://www.ghsFoundation.org/TechnologyScholarship.pdf Both are .pdf fill-in forms. The due date for both as April 30, 2004. * NYLC Grant from Councilmember Chavez for Elvira Paguda Greg reported that Elvira has not attended a conference session yet because of confusion over the grant from Councilmember Chavez's office. The Councilmember's office has asked if the Foundation would be willing to accept and administer the grant on Elvira's behalf. Last November, the Foundation gave a $250 matching grant to her endeavor. No Board member raised an objection to the Foundation administering the grant from the City for Elvira. * Funding for Academic Honors Night - Demerris SIP has given PTSA money in the past to fund Academic night. SIP has no money. Demerris is asking on behalf of PTSA for a $500 grant for awards. We are not able to commit due to a previous commitment of funds. * Report on unanimous written consent motion for $500 to help fund the EAST conference trip. Greg reported that he had recived emails from each board member approving the following written unanymous consent motion: "To lend the EAST program $500 for the March 8 - 10 conference expenses to be repaid by the end of the school year." This is a loan to be paid back by the end of the academic year. Mr. Iverson is working on some fundraising venues to pay back the loan. Resources at the District Office have been explored. If our spring fund raising goes better than expected, we may be able to forgive some or all of the loan. * HNVF Grant Update - Greg, Demerris Greg reported that we submitted the quarterly report through December which showed progress toward our HNVF contract goals. One Spanish & Vietnamese speaker have been hired. The school's Career center councilor took another position at a different school. * Alumni Directory Update Nothing reported. * Report on Alumni Fund Raiser and Membership--Spring Crab Feed with Boosters Participating was good. Event netted $655 and 9 new memberships Greg stated he would like to explore the idea of having a Lobster Feed next year at the beginning of school. * Continued Discussion of '03-'04 membership drive and Organizational Goals Discussion about keeping the focus on "students" vs teacher development in terms of reaching the public. Jim suggested having a door-to-door walk in the Gunderson neighborhood with the students as an attempt to gain support and membership using the 7 board members with 14 kids on each day over a two day period. Greg would like to combine this with a direct mailing to Gunderson parents. Demerris suggested that we do a direct mailing to Freshman parents coordinated with "Freshman Night" in May. We would be the first organization that would be asking for support. Jim suggested a general mailing right after April 15 and emphasize the "tax deductable" point. Approximately 300 new freshman expected to enter the school. Demerris gets the labels. We would have to pay for mailing expense. Jim suggested that at our April meeting we bring in maps of the district to chart out route for neighborhood solicitation. Greg suggeted the weekend that the VEP has their community garage sale. Greg to check date- usually sometime in April. Discussion ensued about putting an article in the VEP news. Greg to email dates. Also suggested was the mall parking lot distribution of Foundation flyers. * Adjourn Meeting adjourned at 7:00 p.m.
