This CD is a Second Edition of the

Devoe-deVaux Family History 1691-1991

Published at Stratham New Hampshire in 2004 by the author of the printed edition of 1999

None of the material in the printed First Edition or on this CD derives from any electronic genealogical sources; it is based on personal research by the author except where noted.

NOTE: This CD enjoys the same copyright as the printed version; see page ii of the book.

Two hundred copies only were printed of the First Edition, most purchased by family members. Other copies have been purchased by the public libraries of the cities of New York and Montreal, the College of Ste-Anne in Nova Scotia, the University of Wisconsin Historical Society and the LDS in Utah. I have placed by donation copies at the New England Historic Genealogical Society, Boston Massachusetts, the Acadian Cultural Society, Fitchburg Massachusetts, the Center for Acadian Studies at the University of Moncton,  Moncton New Brunswick, The Beaton Institute, Sydney Nova Scotia, and the Three Gables at Cheticamp, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Continued interest in the book prompted the creation of this edition.

AS IS SO WITH THE PRINTED FIRST EDITION OF THE BOOK, WHILE THIS CD DEALS MOST EXTENSIVELY WITH BUT ONE LINE OF THE ACADIAN DE VAUX FAMILY BEGINNING WITH THE THIRD GENERATION, IT SHOULD BE OF INTEREST TO ALL WHO BEAR, OR WHOSE ANCESTORS BORE, THE NAME. It includes historical data on the origin and spelling of the name, a history of Acadia and the Acadians as well as The Deportation. It is recognized as the most accurate study of the early years of this family, based on a search by the author of all extant primary sources, correcting many of the errors found in the work of other less scholarly efforts of the past.

This is not an E-Book, but simply a CD which contains the scanned pages of the original printed version; corrections of errors detected in that version have been made prior to scanning. Hyper-Links have been added to make it easier for on-screen viewing and navigation, i.e., there is a link to the next page and an “E” version of a contents page with links to the start of each chapter. The purpose of the CD is to allow the purchaser to either view the contents on screen or print out the entire book for use in a three ring binder or other storage; in that event the back cover image should be used as the final page (back-to-back printing of the pages would reduce the bulk).  The CD was designed primarily to serve this option, the ability to view the work on a computer was simply a secondary option possible by virtue of the nature of CDs.

I am indebted to my Acadian Cousin in the UK, Jeff Deveaux of Rawmarsh, Rotherham, England, whose time and talents have resulted in the successful transfer of my Family History to this CD.
