Hail to Leilehua! Alma mater dear, Sing the joyful chorus... Boy were they singing at Dots on Sunday Night! We hope that all of you who attended had a great time reminiscing with your fellow classmates. For those of you who didn't, you missed out on a great time!
The golf tournament kicked off our 40 Year Reunion at the Waikele Golf Club. This reunion was just another excuse to tee it up again as they golf together regularly. Now if we could only get Michael Kimura, Brian Yonemori, Howard Hisamoto, Ralph Ige, Sidney Tanaka, and Wayne Shizu Matsumoto to join us at some of the other reunion events.
There was magic in the air on Friday night after the John Hirokawa magic show as Ms Len talked about how her being so much a part of our class was destiny. She described how all of the counselors were new and no one wanted to take the Senior class. However, being that she was the only one with some experience, she decided to take us on. And while most of us don't remember getting called into her office for "counseling," for some reason, she remembers our counseling meetings so well. She has stories on almost everyone.
Then, there were oohs when Karen (Kamisugi) Imamoto read her notes on Rory's "most memorable event from small kid time." It was his first date with Drina. All eyes went to Flora Mae who said "It was before my time."
Steven Fukuoka got up and talked about how he got his blue '60 Chevy. He also mentioned loaning it to "Martian" and later seeing it at Ala Moana Park with the windows "steamed up." He still has the car, hoping to restore it to its past glory some day. (Or maybe he is blackmailing Martian and needs to keep the car as evidence.)
Alan Cox confessed to being part of the group that put the trash can with the '65 on it up on the flag pole. No one else wanted to confess to being with him as the police case is still under investigation! Now what is this thing about the bra on the flag pole? Susie (Fox) Shuckett said it wasn't hers.
Mahalo to the donors of the door prizes. Esther (Tamura) Yamamoto donated the Longs Drugs gift cards. Mel Tanioka donated the gift baskets. Leila (Toyama) Honda donated the Disney gifts. Karen (Kawamata) Niki donated the craft products and Tupperware products.
The evening officially ended with our "songleaders" Angie (Abulon) Aniya, Louise (Muramoto) Black, Geri (Albano) Pasco, Roland Espe, and Karen Honma leading the class in our Alma Mater. Susie, why were you not up there?
Like old times, a bunch of them went off for more "talk story," drinks, and walks on the beach. No names will be mentioned as this came from a source that asked that the names be kept confidential.
The picnic at the Dole Plantation was a relaxing way to spend the afternoon, sitting under the shade of the trees talking story. You could tell who was up late partying as they were dragging coming to the picnic.
Flora Mae, thinking we are still young kids, had everyone running in circles, guessing "famous sayings" and playing Jan Ken Po. Pacita (Ambrosio) Agbanlog was the big winner taking home all the quarters!
After the games, groups headed off to go on the Pineapple Express Train ride or try their luck in the Pineapple Maze. Fortunately, we did not lose anyone in the maze (although there was accusations of people cheating to try and beat the record.)
The evening at Dots was like going to a dance from the past, except instead of records, we were singing karaoke! Everyone agreed that they haven't had so much fun in a long time. Just talking story, dancing the cha cha or just swaying to the beat. Pupus were donated by Crash Harada of Dots, Mel Tanioka, and Rory MacKay.
Allen Cox was still charming the girls, singing and dancing. Oh, that was Jr. Must take after the father. After sitting quietly in the corner, the Cox family came out to party once the karaoke started.
Richard Sun was dancing with everyone who would dance with him when he was not singing.
Aileen (Hashimoto) Omori was having a good time. She must go out a lot because she sure knows how to party. She came prepared with her designated driver Kathy (Tamaribuchi) Kawaguchi. Yes Aileen, Rory had the camera rolling and Ron Katto was taking a lot of pictures.
Was nice to see Teddy Dangidang, Dennis Paahana, and Clarence Yamamoto there. Now they regret missing all of the others.
With Dots being so much fun, maybe we should just have three nights at Dots!
