Who We Are

We are the family of Ted Hamachi, who was born in California in 1927. His father Shotaro Hamachi immigrated from Fukuoka, Japan to California in the early 1900s. His grandfather was Seiemon Hamachi.

Ted settled in West Covina where he worked as a farmer, life insurance salesman, and gardener. He had 5 children, and 10 grandchildren.

This is how our family name is written in Japanese. The first character is hama, which means beach or shore. The second character Chi means earth or ground; it can also be pronounced Ji.
It used to be written like this before the simplified character set was adopted in Japan.
The graphic at the top of the page is our mon, or family crest, as near as we can tell.
