In this view, both Heaven and the Lake of Fire continue without end. The redeemed remain in a created state in God's presence. The lost remain in a created state separated from God's presence, tormented continually without any hope of salvation.
However, unlike the popular concept, both Heaven and the Lake of Fire have an end. All creation is eventually redeemed by Jesus. Once this is accomplished, Jesus ("The Word") returns to God, and the circle is completed. This presents a picture of total completeness. Instead of multitudes being left separated from the Creator without end, all creation is brought back into harmony with God through the power of His love. As a new Christian, I was discipled in the popular concept, and I zealously promoted it. But a few years later a friend of mine encouraged me to search the scriptures carefully, and I found that many of our modern beliefs are actually not scripturally accurate. As proof of this, let's examine some compelling verses that provide the foundation for the idea of a universal salvation.
