Sleepy (March / TVT)I hate to slate these guys as Smashing Pumpkins proteges, but this Billy Corgan produced EP doesn't offer much reason not to. It's all here: the soft, near whisper vocals, the layers and layers of feedback, the all too familiar "siva" shuffle beat, and heck, these guys even claim "Smashing Pumpkins" would've been their name if it hadn't already been taken.
These five songs do have their moments. The drum sound on "Insect Tree" is enough to get Billy a full-time production job, and the title-track's twelve minutes of feedback is as soothing as it is annoying. Hardcore Pumpkins' fans probably already have this one. The rest of us will wait and see if the full-length they just finished recording lands them on their own two feet. -Roy C
