Napa competition
10 November 2001

The following report and photos were provided by Dave Hammond:

As with last week, it was an early start to a very long day. The busses and equipment pulled out an hour later this week, at 06:40. This festival involved only a Parade and Field show competition.

The band played and marched very well in the parade competition, however due to an unfortunate time penalty, the band finished out of the top three. After a practice run for the field show, the band enjoyed a great lunch provided by the Gayle and Jerry Bircher and a great booster volunteer team! After lunch, there was time for the students to relax and play. It started as a sprinkle, but in minutes we were inundated with a steady rain. The band took shelter in the busses and waited the storm out.

Several hours later, just as it was looking like a washout, there was a break in the storm. It was perfect timing, at about 7:15 PM, and the band was due to step off at 8:30. Preparations were put into high gear and the band was standing "on deck" in the end zone of a very nice Memorial Stadium when the rains came again. The band made their entrance on cue, and performed a very nice show under a steady rain.  Mr. Gaesser could be heard on the sidelines exhorting the kids to "have fun out there!" After receiving a third place trophy (with an excellent score of 90.5) in class "A" the band quickly re-boarded the busses and was back in Folsom by 11:30. All in all, a great day and evening.
