Biographical Information

A lifelong Californian, I lived in Hollywood and Long Beach until we moved to Garden Grove when I was four. Following several years as a programmer, department computer center manager, technical assistant, and manager of system programming at the University of California, Irvine, I joined Intel Corporation in San Jose in 1978 as a system programming manager. Following various management and senior technical assignments, I retired in early 2008.

So far as I know, none of the computers for which I did assembly language programming are still being produced (unless one counts the IBM System 360, to which the current IBM mainframes bear a certain resemblance). My first computer program was written for the Recomp II computer in April, 1964, which is also the date of my first bug. The Recomp II was notable for being small enough to fit inside an airplane. It had a hardware square root instruction, but no assembler. My favorite computer (for assembly language coding) was the Digital Equipment Corporation PDP-10, the machine where a SKIP never skips, a JUMP never jumps, and a no-op is called JFCL. My hobbies include reading, music, camping, history, and beta testing.

My interest in Argentina, reflected in the number of links below, originated in my service there as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Other interests include Scouting and music. My wife Monica was long-time uniform manager (I called it the uniform dictator) for the marching band. You may contact me to get email addresses for David, Rachel, Gregory, or Edward. Daniel would have been 34 on 29 January 2009.

We originated the Folsom Music Boosters site, and hosted it from 1995 to 2003. We host the Folsom Music Archive, a "scrapbook" of the original site to 2003.
