Strikingly lifelike, hand painted stone animals

Paula has been experimenting in different mediums for the past fifteen years, but in painting animals on stone, Paula believes she has found the medium that best suits her talents. The majority of rocks selected vary in weight from one to four pounds, but can be as small as an egg or as large as 30 pounds. Such as the Raccoon above. (Whom Paula and her family affectionately named Rocky Rockcoon). Rocky was recently sold at the Hills Skills Arts and Craft Show in Greenville, S.C. He will be taking up residence on the front porch of a beach house overlooking the Atlantic. (Some rockcoons have all the luck).

The stone animals produced are determined by the shape of the river rocks founds at any given time. Paula harvests her stones through outings in the woods, trips to rivers, and in some instances trips to the west coast. Her husband Charles also carries a big responsibility in finding stones for her while he is traveling.

The animals are painted in acrylic and then covered with a thin layer of polyurethane.  For those who wish to have their stone art placed outside, the Carter's recommend that a good coating of marine polymer be used to protect the paint surface from the elements.

No two stones are alike, which makes these one-of-a-kind stone animals unique gifts. They make terrific paper weights, doorstops, houseplant or garden accents or just conversational pieces for that animal lover in your life.
