This is a little more difficult simply because of the SMT components that have to be ADDED to the board, as well as the addition of the National Semiconductor LM63-CIMA thermal monitoring chip.  This chip also has fan speed control via a pwm control circuit.  However, I don't believe this feature is enabled on the 9600XT.

Parts needed:

1 Soldering Iron (35w or less to reduce chance of damage to board and solder pads)

Rosin Core solder.

LM63CIMA

2.2nf SMT Capacitor

.1uf SMT Capacitor

100pf SMT Capacitor

Patience

Good Soldering Skills.

Here is a BEFORE shot of the area of the card that will be the home of the LM63CIMA.

The missing SMT capacitors will go in the spots C257, C258, and C256.

The values of the SMT capacitors corresponding to the correct solder pads are:

C257 = 2.2nf

C256 =  100pf

C258 = .1uf

The LM63CIMA will be placed on the LARGER set of solder pads of location AU20 (the set of pads closest to C257).  The resistors that are already in the positions of R554, R45, and R46 will remain in place.

Here is a basic circuit diagram of the LM63.  This was taken from the data sheet that National Semiconductor provides for this chip.

Here is a shot AFTER the mod has been completed.
