Medical Informatics is an interesting and challenging business, but...I really like sailing better than almost anything! Check out the Hillsboro Inlet Sailing Club for a wonderful group of folks who enjoy sailing, both cruising and racing, and all the healthy exercise and socializing that goes with it! I am also a member of another great organization, namely US Sailing, which acts to promote the sport of sailing, sets standards for rules of the road, safety and all sorts of other tasks for sailors in this country.
If you want to follow some really challenging sailors, go visit the Around Alone Race. For general boating items, hop over to the Internet Waterway and see what I mean...

A really interesting project you might
want to get in on is the SETI@home project,
which is a way for individuals with home computers to join a team
analyzing data from the big radio telescope in Arecibo, Puerto
Rico, for signs of extraterrestrial intelligence. In my view, it
is a pretty good use of your computer's spare time and pretty
cheap entertainment for you! And, who knows? You could be the
first person to make "contact".
Two pressing problems to keep in mind as we go about our daily lives are graphically represented at the following web sites:
Of course, every problem has a solution, but sometimes we need a radical new perspective to see it. Facts speak for themselves, but only rarely are we are prepared to hear them... Food for thought!
Abaco Out Islands, Bahamas is a wonderful getaway spot and the site of a well run sailing regatta every July. In 1997 I crewed on Contrails owned by Jim Wallace of Deerfield Beach, and we were winning our class with two seconds and two firsts until hurricane "Bertha" forced us to hole up in Hope Town harbor. After a lot of wind and rain we headed home to Florida, tired but happy with our luck! In 1998, our same crew chartered a Moorings boat and had a wonderful week of fun, but we didn't fare too well in the trophy department with just one third place. This year will be different with a new Contrails, a Hobie 33 (formerly "Spank Me" from Jacksonville) which is small, light and very competitive! In the Hobie nationals at SORC in Biscayne Bay, Miami, in early March, 1999 we managed to finish second in our class. See the photo on the "back"... During the annual Ft. Lauderdale to Key West race in January 2000, we battled some pretty rough seas and even rougher competition and still managed to come in third. Check this wild photo out. And, last, but not least, see my bride,Cindy and I as we were about to get "hitched". We were in New Zealand for the Americas Cup Regatta finals in February/March 2000.

By the way, I
took this photo of King Neptune at HMS Dockyard, the old Royal
Navy base in Bermuda ,
which is now a maritime museum. I was there in June 1995 after
finishing second in class in the TRANSAT race from Daytona Beach
to Bermuda as part of the crew of Calypso
owned by my good friend, Jeff Obligen of Highland Beach.
Thank you very much for cruisin' by. You are visitor number -
- to my web page since
March 1996. Not such a big deal for hits, but how do you like it
otherwise?
