Introduction
We've all looked for service shop that does quality work at a fair price. And does it on time! Look no further, for Exclusive
Motors (EM) of San Diego does all of the above!
I bought my first MB from EM about 7 years ago. It was a '91 190E 2.3 with about 50K. Drove it for 2-1/2 years putting
on about 30K miles. All service was, of course, done at EM. Next I graduated to a '93 E320 followed by '94 E320 coupe. Even
though I did not purchase the cars from EM, all service was done there. Today, with my '94 S500 coupe (I love coupes!),
all service is still done at EM. They are located just off Miramar Road on Miracrest Place, Suite 'C'. Very easy
to get to because it's just off US-805 Freeway in San Diego. Take Miramar Rd exit, head East for two miles, then turn on
Miracrest Pl.
Personnel
Meet the main stays of Exclusive Motors; Michel Miro, owner and Pat Petrovic, the shop's master technician. Both men have been
in the automobile business since they were young men in Europe.
Pat is very autocratic about the way repairs are to be done. His way or no way! I've also seen Pat repair items that
most dealerships would not attempt. Firstly, it gets more $$$ for the service shop but more importantly, most techs are
not capable of doing that type of repair! And doing it quickly!
Car Sales
Michel sells used Mercedes from the Miracrest Place location. He usually has some nice, well cared for Mercedes at very
reasonable prices.
The example shows a '94 E420 for $14,900. I drove the car and it handles very nicely and with the big
4.2L V8 it has lots of power. Last week, he had a cremepuff '96 S320 in silver and gray interior. It lasted a couple of
days!

Facilities
The shop has two main lifts which allows Pat to 'squeeze' in at least 5 cars to work on. You do that by raising the lift and
placing a car underneath! Clever, eh? It works for him.
As much as Pat doesn't like to admit, some emergencies do happen. So the customer calls in a panic, he is able to work a
car into a seemingly full shop.
Take notice of the floor. Although you are not quite able to 'eat' off it, it's pretty close. Pat stresses that a clean shop
is good for him and business. You know what? He's absolutely right. When you bring a clean car in his shop, it leaves that
way too.
The picture shows the back lift in more detail. Not shown is another work area to the right of the back lift. Here Pat
does major engine work such as head gaskets or long term work with no set time delivery.
Visible is the Bear DACE machine that can do just about anything. It comes in handy to do pre-inspection SMOG testing for his
customers.


Pat does all of the work himself and he says that's the only way to know it's done right. Here we see him doing a
"small package"; his term for "lube, oil, filter" service.
I spend a lot of time watching Pat repair and trouble shoot MB cars and I've learned so much about their operation and
repair. I'm now an avid DIYer and do this for many repairs that before would have been done by a shop. Not only have I
saved some $$$ but have the satisfaction of being able to DIY!
The day I shot these pictures, Steve Zungul, former SD Sockers star, brought his car for some troubleshooting. One of the
infamous MB relays developed a crack in one of the printed circuit traces. Some times they can be fixed if you're proficient
at soldering. I've repaired a few of those modules (relays) for him but many times it's a component that not easily replaced
even if you know it's bad.
