Why email? Way not simply put everything up on the Internet?
Several reasons - all boring. Among them are:
My intention is eventually to publish my emails in book form - either on paper or as an etext. Using email gives me a bit more control over how many people get to see the material before publication.
One of the reasons for my willingness to disseminate my material before publishing my book is to get some feedback during the writing process. Although I will never require that you provide me with feedback, I will occasionally ask you, as a courtesy, to give me some.
Moreover, you will sometimes be given a choice of topics. What you choose will give me a sense about the types of things people are interested in reading.

How can I stop your mailings?
Each time a chapter is sent, you will be asked to reply. I will want to know that you are reading the emails and that you are still interested in seeing more. A subsequent "chapter" will be sent only if a reply was sent for the prior one. In effect, emails will only be sent to you with your consent and at the pace at which you wish to receive them.
If you wish to be removed from the list entirely, send an email with the the words "remove from list" in the subject line. Until you do that your address will remain on my list. This allows you to reply at any time to get a new chapter. It also means that you will still very occasionally receive emails about other matters pertaining to this website.

I am uncomfortable giving out my email address to a total stranger.
So am I. Spammers and viruses have ruined the beauty of email. However, let me assure you that I have no intention of sharing my mailing list with anyone, commercial or otherwise. Presently, my intention is to use your email address only to communicate with you regarding the topic of this site. Should matters change in the future, you will be given ample opportunity to drop off the list or to refuse to grant me permission to give your email to anyone else. I will also take reasonable precautions to try prevent my list from being obtained by hackers, spammers, viruses or the like. However, I cannot take responsibility for any failure of the security system I use.

Will I have to pay for this?
Initially at least, no. If things change, you will be notified.

Am I under any other obligation to you?
No.
