Why?
How is it that the Commandments of the Second Tablet match so closely the sins committed by mankind? Were they modeled on the sins? If yes, why? If no, then how come they match them so closely?
What is the significance of the match between laws and sins? Is there a message here? Does it have anything to do with the purpose of Bible and/or the Pentateuch? With their underlying rationale?
In truth, a full understanding of the congruence between laws and sins is nothing less than monumental. Determining the reason for the match is an eye-opener which gives one a much better sense of what the Bible is all about. The Ten Commandments are clearly the most important set of laws in the Pentateuch. In a sense, they sum up and subsume all of its laws. It can be said that all law in the remainder of the Pentateuch is simply an elaboration of those ten. Understanding the Ten Commandments correctly, understanding in what way they serve as a blueprint for all of law, understanding their relationship to the five sins of mankind, clarifies the Pentateuch, and by extension all of the Bible, in a number of important ways. It gives one insights that allow for the resolution of some of the most fundamental and vexing issues regarding Pentateuch's selection and presentation of its material, and its overall purpose.
