Area of Our Galaxy

Our galaxy has a diameter of 100,000 to 120,000 light years.
A light year is just a bit less than 5.87 trillion miles.
So using the lower figure of the estimate, the diameter of our galaxy is about than 587 quadrillion miles (5.9 x 1017).
Its radius is half that, or about 2.95 x 1017 miles.
Applying the formula for determining area from radius (area = Πr2) gives the following:
3.14 x 2.95 x 2.95 x 1017 x 1017 =
27.3 x 1034 =
2.73 x 1035
