Reasons for modesty

   Q. Why is modesty important in this world?


      - It is prudent from a tactical point of view.  Immodesty 
         and arrogance, like many other things, turn people off, 
         make them dislike you.  You incur the dislike of others 
         and get nothing in return.  Having the dislike of others 
         is a big disadvantage in life.  It makes life much more 
         difficult.  Why incur the ill will of others for no good 
         reason? 

      - An attitude of modesty is important to learning, to 
         intellectual growth and development.  Arrogance and pride 
         stand in the way of learning from others.  To learn from 
         others you must have due respect for them and realize 
         there are things to be learned from everyone.  The proud 
         man is too proud to admit that he doesn't know so he 
         never learns.  He is too proud to ask questions of 
         others, to seek their help.
