On Rearing Children
He who spares his rod hates his son,
But he who loves him disciplines him promptly.
Prov 13:24
Chasten your son while there is hope,
And do not set your heart on his destruction.
Prov 19:18
Train up a child in the way he should go,
And when he is old he will not depart from it.
Prov 22:6
Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child;
The rod of correction will drive it far from him.
Prov 22:15
Do not withhold correction from a child,
For if you beat him with a rod, he will not die.
You shall beat him with a rod,
And deliver his soul from hell.
Prov 23:13-14
Correct your son, and he will give you rest;
Yes, he will give delight to your soul.
Prov 29:17
Now this is the commandment, and these are the statutes and
judgments which the LORD your God has commanded to teach you,
that you may observe them in the land which you are crossing
over to possess, that you may fear the LORD your God, to keep
all His statutes and His commandments which I command you, you
and your son and your grandson, all the days of your life, and
that your days may be prolonged.
And these words which I command you today shall be in your
heart.
You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall
talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the
way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind
them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets
between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of
your house and on your gates.
Deut. 6:1-2,6-9
The dearer the child the sharper must be the rod.
Who loves well chastises well.
Spare the rod and spoil the child.
Better the child cry than the old man.
Better the child cry than the mother cry.
What is learned in the cradle lasts till the grave.
