Lions Tim Baldwin and Jim Ensor  l Everyday Heroes

Sometimes all it takes is a good idea.   Several Lions were sitting around taking a break from making pizza at the Libertytown Fire Company Carnival.  As we talked we were approached by several people asking where the Funnel Cake stand was located.  Click! An idea!  I ask Lion Jim Ensor and Lion Tim Baldwin, “Why don’t we look into parking the pizza trailer over there (pointing to a vacant spot on the grounds) and selling funnel cakes?

Well these two guys, we’ll call them “funnel cake heroes”, sprung into action.  With the permission and blessing of the carnival leadership, Jim and Tim worked on the details.  How do you make funnel cakes?  Where do you buy the raw material?  Can we borrow equipment from another Lions Club who makes funnel cakes for a fund raising project?

With these questions answered, action started.  Jim took the lead and borrowed the special equipment needed.  He saw to it that other equipment such as electric frying pans needed for cooking the funnel cakes were rounded up.

Lion Tim purchased the necessary ingredients.  Then Lion Jim hauled the pizza trailer to the carnival grounds.

By Wednesday night the club was in the business of funnel cake sales as shown on the right.  Of course there were many others, both Lions and friends of Lions, who were instrumental in making this  a success story.

The Funnel cakes were a huge success!  Every time I looked over there or went by to offer service there was a long line to the funnel cake stand.  In the final accounting the club netted 50% more at the Carnival than if they had just sold Pizza.

Lions Tim Baldwin and Jim Ensor really are Lion Everyday Heroes!
