History of route 2:
Original state highway.
Originally routed along current route 6 from Indiana state line to
Bryan and along current routes 51 and 20 from Toledo to Pennsylvania state
line.
Toledo to Pennsylvania state line certified as route 20 in 1926.
Indiana state line to Hicksville was route 17 before 1926.
Toledo to Port Clinton was route 23 before 1926.
Indiana state line to Hicksville was route 18 only from 1926-36.
Hicksville to Bryan was route 108 before 1936.
In 1926, rerouted from Toledo to Cleveland along previous route 23 from
Toledo to Port Clinton, previous unnumbered road from Port Clinton to
2 miles west of Sandusky, and previous route 12 from 2 miles west of
Sandusky to Cleveland.
Extended to Wickliffe along previous unnumbered road by 1931.
In 1936, extended to Indiana state line along previous route 108 from
Bryan to Hicksville and current route 2 (route 18 in 1936) from Hicksville
to Indiana state line.
