  • Original state highway.
  • Originally routed along current route 23 from Portsmouth to Waldo and along current route 423 from Waldo to Marion.

  • In 1926, routing south of Marion changed to more or less the current routing.
  • Cincinnati to Middletown was route 6 before 1926.
  • Middletown to 2 miles north of Irwin was route 52 before 1926.
  • Marysville to Marion was route 38 before 1926.
  • Dayton to Springfield upgraded and rerouted by 1959, including upgrading route 69N (now route 235N) to route 68 to freeway.
  • 6 miles south of Fairborn to current route 70 (route 40 in 1959) certified as route 444 in 1959.
