  • Original state highway.
  • Originally routed from Bedford to Pennsylvania state line along current route 14 from Bedford to Unity, route 170 from Unity to East Palestine, and route 165 from East Palestine to Pennsylvania state line.
  • Cleveland to Bedford was route 8 before 1931.
  • Extended to Cleveland by 1931.
  • Unity to Pennsylvania state line was route 165 before 1946.
  • By 1946, rerouted from Unity to Pennsylvania state line along previous route 165.
  • Unity to East Palestine certified as route 170 only in 1946.
  • East Palestine to Pennsylvania state line certified as route 165 in 1946.
  • In 1956, routing from Deerfield to 10 miles east of Salem changed to follow route 224 from Deerfield to Canfield and route 46 from Canfield to 10 miles east of Salem.
