    History of route 17:

  • Certified in 1934.
  • Entire route was route 43 from 1931-34.
  • 1 mile east of North Olmsted to route 42 upgraded to four lanes by 1946.
  • North Olmsted to 1 mile east of North Olmsted and route 42 to route 21 upgraded to four lanes in 1956. (Route 237 to 1 mile east of route 237 remained four lanes but undivided.)

    Route 17 Before 1934:

  • Originally routed from Indiana state line 3 miles west of Hicksville to Pennsylvania state line 5 miles east of Poland.
  • Routed along current route 2 from Indiana state line to Hicksville, route 18 from Hicksville to Tiffin, route 100 from Tiffin to route 224, and route 224 from route 100 to Pennsylvania state line.
  • Indiana state line to Tiffin certified as route 18 in 1926.
  • In 1926, routing west of Tiffin changed to that of current route 224.
  • Entire route certified as route 224 in 1934.
