History of route 57:
Original state highway.
Originally routed from 1 mile west of Wadsworth to Lorain.
Riceland to route 585 was route 94 before 1969.
Ohio Turnpike (current route 80) to route 254 upgraded to four lanes by
1956.
Extended to Wadsworth along previous route 224 by 1959.
Elyria bypass added as a two-lane highway in 1964.
Elyria bypass upgraded to divided highway by 1966.
Extended to Riceland along previous route 94 via Rittman and Orrville by
1969.
In 1972, rerouted due south from route 76 to Riceland, and previous route
57 from Wadsworth to route 585 decertified.
