    History of route 57:

  • Original state highway.
  • Originally routed from 1 mile west of Wadsworth to Lorain.
  • Riceland to route 585 was route 94 before 1969.
  • Ohio Turnpike (current route 80) to route 254 upgraded to four lanes by 1956.
  • Extended to Wadsworth along previous route 224 by 1959.
  • Elyria bypass added as a two-lane highway in 1964.
  • Elyria bypass upgraded to divided highway by 1966.
  • Extended to Riceland along previous route 94 via Rittman and Orrville by 1969.
  • In 1972, rerouted due south from route 76 to Riceland, and previous route 57 from Wadsworth to route 585 decertified.
