Photo Gallery  - Torii Station 2002
10th Area Support Group

After 30 years, I decided it was time to take a vacation back to Okinawa.  I couldn't afford to stay too long, and I figured a week should take care of it.  The time was right.  It was, almost, 30 years since I have taken the pictures, you have probably seen, when I was stationed there.  The air fares, yen-to-dollar exchange  was lowest in 5 years, and the timing was just right.  The frosting on the cake would be if I would be able to go on to Torii Station and take some pictures.

I emailed the CSM, and Post Commander, requesting permission and purpose of my visit  A few weeks later, I received my reply and everything was being set up.  I was asked to forward our passport numbers so that Security, at the front gate, would be able confirm us on their access list and the day of our arrival.  (Thanks to my Uncle - CSM ret. Grady Adams for the advice).

Torii Station use to be the home of the Army Security Agency until 1976 and was commonly called Field Station Sobe.  In 1976, it was referred to as Field Station Okinawa as part of INSCOM.  After 1985, Torii Station became the home of the 10th Area Support Group( ASG) and 1/1 Special Forces.

I would like to thank Col. Sullivan, CSM Sanders, and the staff of Public Affairs Office for allowing me to come back on to the base to take these pictures.  Also, I would  like to, especially, thank Sgt Kendrick for escorting us around.  He was very helpful and informative.

These pictures were taken with an Olympus D-510 Digital camera.
