The following pictures were taken in February 2002 on a vacation back to Okinawa. These were taken on my third day. These would not have been taken if it wasn't for a voice whispering in my ear, early that morning, telling me to go to Cape Zanpa (or Bolo Point as we knew it). I thought it must have have been part of the jet-lag, as I kept arguing with that voice. It started about 5AM as I woke up to plan my activity for that day. As I was looking outside my hotel window I saw the wind blowing on some flags across the street about 20-25 mph. There were also predictions of storms that day. Whatever it was, I took the advice and went, not knowing why until after I arrived and saw the waves hitting the rocks. People get swept off these rocks each year. One of my friends did, but was fortunate enough to live and tell about it after he was found 20 miles north in Nago Bay by some fishermen.
The first 6 pictures were taken with my Olympus D-510 digital camera. Click on the first 6 for a larger image. The last four were scanned from 35mm prints. These images are not clickable. The Hotel, in the last set of pictures, is the Hotel Royal Zanpa Resort (from what I remember of it). From what I remember it is now occupying the area where the old Bolo Point Rifle Range use to be.

My favorite picture. Notice the people, in the center, fishing. |
