Baptized Heinrich Christian Klingel in the Evangelische Kirche
Butzbach on November 13, 1851. Sponsors were Heinrich Klingel &
Heinrich Christian Klingel. Christian left Germany from Bremen Harbor
aboard the ship "Union" on April 14, 1869 and arrived in New York on
May 8, 1869. This was 5 months before Christian's 18th birthday when
it would have been mandatory that he serve in the Prussian Army.
Naturalized on 10/27/1884 in the Circuit Court of Cook Co. Listed in
the 1892 Chicago Voters Index. Lived next to Louis Mess and family in
1880 and 1900 census. Christian applied for a passport on May 17, 191
3 with his wife Dorothea and daughter Susanna. Christian and family
traveled to Germany with his brother Ernst to visit his brother and
sister still living there. They planned to return "within two years."
His description reads: Stature, 5 feet, 9 inches; Forehead, high;
Eyes, gray-blue; Nose, medium; Mouth, Medium; Chin, round; Hair,
gray; Complexion, Fair; Face, Oval. Buried in St. Boniface Catholic
Cemetery even though he was a Lutheran.
